Vom Bahnhof Hardbrücke zum Prime Tower in zwei Stunden
Zürich West ist ein kooperatives Entwicklungsgebiet von Stadt und privaten Grundeigentümern. Auf der Industriebrache wurde eine eigene Stadt mit viel kulturellem und postindustriellem Flair gebaut. Entdecken Sie das Zürich West Feeling in 2 Stunden während eines historischen Quartierrundganges. Die Zeit für Shopping, Apéritif oder Essen ist darin nicht inbegriffen.
Wenn Sie aus dem Bahnhof Hardbrücke aufsteigen, so geht es rechts der Geroldstrasse entlang in Richtung Innenstadt (ca. 15 Minuten zu Fuss bis zum Hauptbahnhof). Unser Rundgang führt Sie dem Gerold-Areal entlang in Richtung Viaduktbögen. Hier steht des weltbekannte Freitag-Turm, pulsiert das Leben in Frau Gerolds Garten und geht auf der Welle von Urbansurf die Post ab. Gleich nebenan im Viadukt finden Sie Läden, Restaurants, Parks und Snackbars (siehe dazu 1 und 2). Junge Labels, Schweizer Qualitätsprodukte sowie ausgesuchtes Design bilden den Schwerpunkt der Shops. In der Markthalle am Ende des Viaduktes finden Sie kulinarische Spezialitäten. Wenn Sie die Markthalle durch den Haupteingang verlassen, befinden Sie sich an der Limmatstrasse, welche links und rechts von Kunstgalerien gesäumt ist. Im Backsteinbau des Löwenbräu-Areals befinden sich zwei Museen mit zeitgenössischer Kunst (siehe dazu 3).
Gehen Sie weiter auf der Limmatstrasse bis zum Escher-Wyss-Platz. Von hier bis zum Bahnhof Hardbrücke befindet sich das verkehrstechnische und gefühlte Zentrum von Zürich West. Pendler, Nachtschwärmer und Einwohner reisen hier mit Tram, Bus oder S-Bahn an. Die Gegend unter der Hardbrücke (siehe dazu 4) ist Ausgangspunkt für den Besuch der meisten interessanten Spots im Quartier. Im Umkreis der Brücke sind auch die meisten Bars und Restaurants zu finden. Direkt am Escher-Wyss-Platz liegen der Fluss Limmat mit Badestrand, ein Tramdepot und der Industriebetrieb MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz. Hier werden noch weitere Gebietsentwicklungen geplant. Weiter in Richtung Bahnhof stehen an der Hardstrasse das Multiplexkino im Backsteinbau der ehemaligen Seifenfabrik und dahinter die Wohnüberbauung des Steinfels-Areals. Gegenüberliegend steht die ehemalige Schiffbaufabrik mit Schauspielhaus und dem Jazzclub Moods (siehe dazu 5 und 6).
Der Rundgang führt uns weiter der Schiffbaustrasse entlang in Richtung Turbinenplatz, an den der Technopark und der Puls 5 anschliessen (siehe dazu 7). Hier ist ungefähr die Mitte des Quartiers Zürich West. Dahinter bilden Dienstleistungszentren und Wohnbauten das Schwergewicht. Gehen Sie weiter vom Turbinenplatz an die Hardturmstrasse, an deren Ende sich die ehemaligen Fabrikarbeiterhäuschen und das künftige Fussballstadion befinden (siehe dazu 8).
Der Rückweg führt der Pfingstweidstrasse entlang, wo noch fleissig geplant und gebaut wird. Hier sind 4’000 Studenten und Lehrkräfte im Campus der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste einquartiert (siehe dazu 9). Überqueren Sie weiter in Richtung Zentrum die grau-rote Fussgängerpasserelle zum Pfingstweidpark und gehen Sie zurück an die Hardbrücke und ins Maag Village mit dem Prime Tower (siehe dazu 10) als zweithöchstes Haus der Schweiz.
From Hardbrücke Station to Prime Tower in two hours
Zurich West is a cooperative development complex shared by the city and private land owners. The former industrial wasteland is now a vibrant quarter with a lot of cultural and post-industrial flair. Discover the Zurich West feeling in 2 hours during a tour through the historic quarter. The time needed for shopping or stopping for a drink or meal is not included.
When you make your way up from Hardbrücke station you can turn right and walk along Geroldstrasse towards the city center (approx. 15 minutes walk to the main station). Our tour will take you along the Gerold complex towards the Viaduct Arches. There you will find shops, restaurants, parks and snack bars in provisional buildings and in the viaduct itself (see 1 and 2). The shops focus on up-and-coming young labels, Swiss quality products and select designs. You can find culinary specialties in the market hall at the end of the viaduct. If you leave the market hall through the main entrance you will find yourself on Limmatstrasse that is lined by art galleries on both sides. The brickwork building on the Löwenbräu complex houses two museums of contemporary art (see 3).
Continue walking down Limmatstrasse to Escher-Wyss-Platz. The area stretching from here to Hardbrücke station is the traffic hub of Zurich West and also feels like the heart of the district. Commuters, night owls and residents come here by tram, bus or S-Bahn. The area beneath Hardbridge (see 4) is the starting point for visiting the most interesting spots the quarter has to offer. Most of the bars and restaurants are located near to the bridge. The river Limmat with its bathing beach lies directly adjacent to Escher-Wyss-Platz alongside a tram depot and the industrial company of MAN Diesel & Turbo Switzerland. Further urban developments are planned for this area. Walking along Hardstrasse towards the main station you will find the multiplex cinema in the old brickwork soap factory and behind it the Steinfels residential development. The former ship-building factory, now home to a theater and Moods jazz club, is located on the opposite side (see 5 and 6).
Our tour takes us along Schiffbaustrasse towards Turbinenplatz and leads to the Technopark and Puls 5 (see 7). This is about the center of the Zurich-West quarter. The focus is on service centers and residential buildings. Carry on walking from Turbinenplatz to Hardturmstrasse, at the end of which you will find the former factory workers` houses and the future football stadium (see 8).
The return journey takes you along Pfingstweidstrasse, where new constructions are being planned and built. 4`000 students and teaching staff are based in the campus of Zurich`s University of the Arts (see 9). Carry on towards the city center, crossing over the grey-and-red pedestrian walkway to the Pfingstweidpark and then go back to Hardbridge, Maag Village and the Prime Tower (see 10), Switzerland`s second tallest highrise building.
